Urgent National Petition: End the Unjust Tampon Tax – Support the 2024 STAMP Act Now!

Dear Members of Congress,

We,  Period Law Strategy FundRefinery 29, and the undersigned citizens, respectfully demand immediate action on a critical issue affecting millions of Americans: the unfair and discriminatory “tampon tax.” We urge you to pass the  2024 Stop Taxes Against Menstrual Products (STAMP) Act  without delay.

The STAMP would end the tampon tax nationwide once and for all.

Did you know?

  • 1 in 4 menstruating teens  struggles to pay for period products, and  84% of students  have either missed class or know someone who missed class because they did not have access to period products.
  • 2 in 3 low-income women  couldn’t afford menstrual products in the past year, often choosing between food and dignity.
  • The average menstruator spends  $18,000  on period products in their lifetime – an unnecessary burden exacerbated by discriminatory taxation.
  • The FDA and IRS classify tampons and pads as essential medical devices.

And yet:

  • Twenty  states  have rejected pleas to end the tax on these products. This isn’t just unfair and unconstitutional—it’s a public health emergency.
  • The “tampon tax” costs American menstruators over  $96 million annually  – money that could be used for education, healthcare, or other essentials.

The STAMP Act is a crucial step towards menstrual equity and gender equality. By passing this  legislation to end the tampon tax, you will:

  1. Make menstrual products more affordable and accessible for all.
  2. Recognize period products as essential healthcare items.
  3. End the discriminatory practice of taxing biological necessities.
  4. Improve school attendance and workplace productivity.
  5. Help alleviate period poverty for millions of Americans.

This is not a partisan issue – it’s a  human rights  issue.  The American Medical Association, the  American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a growing bipartisan coalition all support ending the tampon tax.

We call on you to take immediate action:

  1. Co-sponsor the 2024 STAMP Act.
  2. Speak out publicly in support of menstrual equity.
  3. Vote YES when the STAMP Act comes to the floor.

Sign below to demand Congress take action:

Every day without action is another day when millions suffer unnecessarily. Be on the right side of history—support the STAMP Act now!
